Highlights : This routeexplores some of the least visited areas of Bhutan before continuing on toTashiyangste following the ancient caravan route across. The landscape isspectacular with stark cliffs and gorges and dense coniferous forests. Theregion is notably famed for its weavers and special textiles & fabrics.Climbing through temperature forest with an abundance of wildlife (includingseveral types of Pheasant) and in the spring time the flowers and bird lifemake this trek a sheer delight.

 

Day 01 : Arrive Paro by DrukAir flight which will offer you great views of Mt. Everest, Kanchenjunga,Chomolhari, Tsrim gang and Jichu Drake. The moment you step out of the

plane you will see thedifference . Bhutan welcomes you with cool, clean fresh air.

Peace and quietness is justanother bonous. ITT representatives will escort you to Kichu

resort. If time prevailsvisit the National museum & Rinpung Dzong. O/N Kichu Resort.

 

Day 02 : To acclimatizeyourself a hike to Taktsang monastery meaning a tiger's den lies

at an altitude of 3000mwhich takes about 4/5 hours.  Themonastery was gutted by fire in

1998 but the remains of thestructure still attract visitors. The Royal Government has

taken immediate steps torestore and re-construct the old structure. Tea and snacks will

be served at the cafeteriawhere you can gaze at this beautiful monument built during the

17th century.  Evening at leisure .

 

Day 03 : Drive to Thimphu(2hrs). Upon

arrival check into HotelRiver view or similar.  PM sightseeing -Visit the Memorial chorten built in the memory of the late King Jigme DorjiWangchuck, 15 century Changangkha

monastery, Motithang minizoo to see the rare "Takin" national animal of Bhutan and drive

further down with good view ofthe Thimphu valley. Visit the new Drupthob nunnery temple

and free time in the market.

 

Day 04 : AM visit thePainting school, National library, Royal goldsmith workshop and

Handicraft centers. PM drive3 hours to Wangduephodrang crossing the Dochula pass 3100

meters. On fine weather youwill see the eastern Himalayan ranges including the highest

mountain in Bhutan Mt.GangarPunsum 7520 meters. The drive from the pass is all the way

downhill dropping to thelower and warmer valleys of lobesa. Visit the market area. Overnight at WangdiKichu Resort.

 

Day 05 : Today the drivetakes about 6 / 7 hours crossing 3 passes over 3000 meters. The

route offers magnificentviews of the Himalayas and beautiful landscape through scattered

hamlets and forest ofrhododendrons and pine. Picnic lunch will be served at the 18 century Chendebjichorten. After one and half hour arrive at a small town known as Trongsameaning new village. The town mainly consists of fresh Tibetan refugees but themost impressive of all is the Trongsa Dzong. The whole of eastern Bhutan wascontrolled from this fortress during the mid 17th century.  Proceed another 2 hours to Bumthang visitingthe Chume weaving center. Overnight at Lhendupcholing Lodge.

 

Day 06 : Bumthang altitude2600m, has an individuality that charms its visitors and separates it fromother regions. Comprised of four smaller valleys, the deeply spiritual regionof Bumthang is shrouded in religious legend. Here tales of Guru Padmasambhavaand his re-incarnation known as Tertons still linger in most nooks and corners.It is also known for its woolen material (yathra) which can be seen hungoutside of houses for sale. Sightseeing - Visit the Jakar Dzong, 7th centuryJambay Lhakhang, Kurjey monastery, Tamshing and Kunchosum monastery. Thissightseeing is a round trip so it is more interesting done on foot. Overnightsame.

 

Day 07 : Trek starts toNgang Lhakhang. The trail folows the Chamkhar river up stream filled withrainbow trouts. The walk is very pleasent through pine forest and you can takeyour time admiring the beautiful country side. Arrive camp at 3000 meters.Walking time 4/5 hours.

 

Day 08 : Nang Lhakhang toUgyenchholing. Climb gradually over the Phephe la pass at (3,340m). Along the way one can enjoy the naturalbeauty of the surroundings. Arrive camp

at 3100 meters. Walking time6/7 hours.

 

Day 09 : Ugyenchholing toPhokpey. The trail ascends through bamboo, hemlock and finally

reaching the alpine forests.Camp at 3450 meters. Walking time 6/7 hours.

 

Day 10 : Phokpey to Ungaar.Continue for one hour to Phokpey la pass at 4050 meters. Then

descend through the gorgeoverlooking mountain valleys and plains. Arrive camp at 23100

meters. Walking time 7/8hours.

 

Day 11 : Ungaar to Taskila.This trail winds up and down enroute Drula village and Khaine

temple, one of the oldest inexistence. Arrive camp at 2100 meters. Walking time 7/8

hours.

 

Day 12 : Taskila to Lhuntsi.You can either drive or hike to Lhuntsi. Lhuntsi is a small town and is famousfor its textile weavers. You can stroll around and mingle with the people.Overnight at Guest house or camp.

 

Day 13 : Lhuntsi to Menji.Drive down to Kuri Zam and begin trek through paddy fields and villages. Campat 2000 meters. Walking time 4/5 hours. 

 

Day 14 : Menji to Pemi. Continueuphill through thick forest overlooking mountain views.

Reach camp at 2350 meters.Walking time 4/5 hours.

 

Day 15 : Pemi to Taupang.Today will be quite a long day. Hike uphill to Dongla with great mountain viewsand descend through thick evergreen forest till you reach camp at 2200 meters.Walking time 7/8 hours.

 

Day 16 : Taupang to Yangtsi.Today is the last day and the longest trek. The trail leads graduallydownhill  through chirpine, Oak of subtropical zone. Camp at 1400 meters. Walking time 8/9 hours.

 

Day 17 : ITT coach willdrive you for 2 hours to Trashigang. On the way visit Chorten Kora a huge whitewashed stupa and further on Gom Kora. This small temple is dedicated to GuruRinpoche who subdued a demon. His body imprints can be seen on the hugeboulder. Overnight Hotel or lodge.

 

Day 18 : Drive 6/7 hours toSamdrupjongkhar. On the way visit Kanglung the only university in Bhutan.Further on visit the blind school and the famous weaving center. The road takesyou through numerous towns and villages. the drive can be both adventurous andawesome. Upon arrival at Samdrupjongkhar the climate is warmer and more busythan the last visited areas since it is the border town with India. OvernightHotel.

 

Day 19 : You will bereceived and driven 3 hours to Guwahati by the Indian agent.
